I decide to write this article because some people don’t know the real reason behind the event that brought about the much acclaimed VALENTINE DAY.
We all believe Flowers, taking your partner out on a date, That's what Valentine's day is all about, you are right but its not only that.
Let me blow our mind, the real origin of valentine day isn’t
romantic at all. Follow my story
Valentine or valentinus was a roman priest and on the other
side, there was a roman emperor called Claudius or claudias who persecuted the
church. He passed a decree that all young soldiers must not marry because in
his own opinion unmarried soldiers fought better than married soldiers because
married soldiers might be afraid of what might happen to them or their wives or
families if they died.
Claudius also ordered all Romans to worship twelve gods, and
its a crime punishable by death to associate with Christians. But Valentinus
was not moved by the threat of death could keep him his beliefs.
Valentine was arrested and imprisoned for encouraging them
to marry within the Christian church. Reader, I want you to note this, THIS IS
WHAT VALENTINE IS ALL ABOUT. And he
secretly married them because of the edict."
One of the men who was to judge his case according to the
Roman law at the time was a man called Asterius, his daughter was blind and
valentine was supposed to pray for her.
Finally In the year 269 AD, Valentine was sentenced to a
three part execution of a beating, stoning, and finally decapitation all
because of his stand for Christian marriage.
His last moment was the note he wrote to the daughter of asterius, this
note inspired today’s valentine day celebration. “from your valentine”
What valentine really means is that there comes a time where
you have to lay your life upon the line for what you believe. And with the
power of the Holy Spirit we can do that -- even to the point of death."
