President Jonathan Signs National Health Bill

The long awaited National Health Bill has being signed by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Early this year, a report of the bill was presented by a house committee assigned to consider amendment and the results of public hearing on the bill and its Headed by Deputy Speaker, Emeka Ihedioha.

The bill contains the various roles and functions that the three tiers of government will play on health related issues.

It will guarantee inprovement in the health sector, it will regulate health care practice, it will help nigeria achieve universal health service and promote professionalism among health care givers.

The bill also set standards in health care services rendered across nigeria and it will eliminate non-professionalism in the medical system.

It will provide one percent of nigeria's consolidated revenue fund for the development of primary health care.

The bill will also cover provision of health care insurance for nigerians, especially the less privileged.

15 percent will be for the provision and maintainance of facilities, equipment and transport for PHC facilities. While 20 percent will cover vaccines for all eligible primary healthcare facilities across nigeria

50 percent fund will be utilized by the National Health Insurance Scheme to provide health coverage.

Lastly the health bill will take care of the continuous crisis within the professional health bodies in nigeria.
