Over the last 100 years or so, humanity
has made astounding technological advances at an overwhelming pace.
These advances in science and technology may have made our lives easier
and more exciting, but the trail of waste we have left (and still

According to the PUNCH, The CBN had on Monday said holders of ordinary domiciliary accounts were allowed to deposit foreign currencies into their accounts, a move that ended a six-month embargo on the DMBs from receiving cash deposits from the customers.
The Head, Media and External Relations, FirstBank of Nigeria, Mr. Babatunde Lasaki, confirmed on Saturday that, “Banks can do transfer now. We sent messages to some of our customers yesterday (Friday).”
These are the messages some commercial banks sent to their customers. Guaranty Trust Bank said “We are pleased to inform you that you can now transfer foreign currency cash deposits made into your GTBank domiciliary account(s) via internet banking, mobile app or at any of our branches nationwide, subject to a daily cumulative limit of $10,000.”
An email from sterling bank also state that “We are pleased to inform you that effective Monday, January 18, 2016 you will be able to transfer cash deposits from your foreign currency domiciliary accounts, up to a maximum of $10,000 per transaction. Kindly visit any of our branches to submit your request as applicable.”
It was last year August 5, 2015 that CBN banned the payment of cash into domiciliary accounts in a bid to stop illicit financial flows in the Nigerian banking system.

Lassa Fever key fact, Transmission and Prevention
Lassa fever virus has so far claimed the lives of 41 people in the country, even some that are still infected are still under the close watch of the government.
Some people might not know what this deadly disease is all about, have compiled some key fact that i obtained from the World Health Organisation Official website
Death usually occurs within 14 days of onset in fatal cases. The disease is especially severe late in pregnancy, with maternal death and/or fetal loss occurring in greater than 80% of cases during the third trimester
Lassa fever occurs in all age groups and both sexes. Persons at greatest risk are those living in rural areas where Mastomys are usually found, especially in communities with poor sanitation or crowded living conditions. Health workers are at risk if caring for Lassa fever patients in the absence of proper barrier nursing and infection control practices.
In health-care settings, staff should always apply standard infection prevention and control precautions when caring for patients, regardless of their presumed diagnosis. These include basic hand hygiene, respiratory hygiene, use of personal protective equipment (to block splashes or other contact with infected materials), safe injection practices and safe burial practices.
Health workers caring for patients with suspected or confirmed Lassa fever should apply extra infection control measures to prevent contact with the patient’s blood and body fluids and contaminated surfaces or materials such as clothing and bedding. When in close contact (within 1 metre) of patients with Lassa fever, health-care workers should wear face protection (a face shield or a medical mask and goggles), a clean, non-sterile long-sleeved gown, and gloves (sterile gloves for some procedures).
Laboratory workers are also at risk. Samples taken from humans and animals for investigation of Lassa virus infection should be handled by trained staff and processed in suitably equipped laboratories.
On rare occasions, travellers from areas where Lassa fever is endemic export the disease to other countries. Although malaria, typhoid fever, and many other tropical infections are much more common, the diagnosis of Lassa fever should be considered in febrile patients returning from West Africa, especially if they have had exposures in rural areas or hospitals in countries where Lassa fever is known to be endemic. Health-care workers seeing a patient suspected to have Lassa fever should immediately contact local and national experts for advice and to arrange for laboratory testing.

Some people might not know what this deadly disease is all about, have compiled some key fact that i obtained from the World Health Organisation Official website
Key facts
- Lassa fever is an acute viral hemorrhagic illness of 1-4 weeks duration that occurs in West Africa.
- The Lassa virus is transmitted to humans via contact with food or household items contaminated with rodent urine or faeces.
- Person-to-person infections and laboratory transmission can also occur, particularly in hospitals lacking adequate infection prevent and control measures.
- Lassa fever is known to be endemic in Benin (where it was diagnosed for the first time in November 2014), Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and parts of Nigeria, but probably exists in other West African countries as well.
- The overall case-fatality rate is 1%. Observed case-fatality rate among patients hospitalized with severe cases of Lassa fever is 15%.
- Early supportive care with rehydration and symptomatic treatment improves survival.
Symptoms of Lassa fever
The incubation period of Lassa fever ranges from 6-21 days. The onset of the disease, when it is symptomatic, is usually gradual, starting with fever, general weakness, and malaise. After a few days, headache, sore throat, muscle pain, chest pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, cough, and abdominal pain may follow. In severe cases facial swelling, fluid in the lung cavity, bleeding from the mouth, nose, vagina or gastrointestinal tract and low blood pressure may develop. Protein may be noted in the urine. Shock, seizures, tremor, disorientation, and coma may be seen in the later stages. Deafness occurs in 25% of patients who survive the disease. In half of these cases, hearing returns partially after 1-3 months. Transient hair loss and gait disturbance may occur during recovery.Death usually occurs within 14 days of onset in fatal cases. The disease is especially severe late in pregnancy, with maternal death and/or fetal loss occurring in greater than 80% of cases during the third trimester
Transmission
Humans usually become infected with Lassa virus from exposure to urine or faeces of infected Mastomys rats. Lassa virus may also be spread between humans through direct contact with the blood, urine, faeces, or other bodily secretions of a person infected with Lassa fever. There is no epidemiological evidence supporting airborne spread between humans. Person-to-person transmission occurs in both community and health-care settings, where the virus may be spread by contaminated medical equipment, such as re-used needles. Sexual transmission of Lassa virus has been reported.Lassa fever occurs in all age groups and both sexes. Persons at greatest risk are those living in rural areas where Mastomys are usually found, especially in communities with poor sanitation or crowded living conditions. Health workers are at risk if caring for Lassa fever patients in the absence of proper barrier nursing and infection control practices.
Prevention and control
Prevention of Lassa fever relies on promoting good “community hygiene” to discourage rodents from entering homes. Effective measures include storing grain and other foodstuffs in rodent-proof containers, disposing of garbage far from the home, maintaining clean households and keeping cats. Because Mastomys are so abundant in endemic areas, it is not possible to completely eliminate them from the environment. Family members should always be careful to avoid contact with blood and body fluids while caring for sick persons.

United State lift nuclear-related sanctions on Iran
Source Aljazeera
International sanctions against Iran have been lifted after the United Nation atomic watchdog announced that the country had complied with the terms of last July's deal aimed at scaling down its nuclear programme.
According to Aljazeera, The United States and the European Union said on Saturday that nuclear-related sanctions against Iran were lifted, after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said that Tehran had put in place all nuclear measures required under a deal reached with six world powers in July.
"Iran has carried out all measures required under the (July deal) to enable Implementation Day to occur," the Vienna-based IAEA said in a statement on Saturday.
EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said that as a result "multilateral and national economic and financial sanctions related to Iran's nuclear programme are lifted".
"All sides remain firmly convinced that this historic deal is both strong and fair, and that it meets the requirements of all," Mogherini said in Vienna on Saturday in a joint statement with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
"This achievement clearly demonstrates that with political will, perseverance, and through multilateral diplomacy, we can solve the most difficult issues and find practical solutions that are effectively implemented," they said.
Iran's President Hassan Rouhani said it was a "glorious victory" for the "patient nation of Iran."
"I thank God for this blessing & bow to the greatness of the patient nation of Iran," Rouhani said on his official Twitter account.
US Secretary of State John Kerry, who had arrived in Vienna earlier on Saturday as Iran and Western powers finalised the arrangements for the lifting of sanctions, said the steps taken by Tehran have fundamentally changed its nuclear programme.
"Today... the United States, our friends and allies in the Middle East, and the entire world are safer because the threat of the nuclear weapon has been reduced," Kerry said.
The lifting of the sanctions followed news of a prisoner swap deal between Iran and the US, which included the release of Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian.
Al Jazeera's Jacky Rowland, reporting from Vienna, said the lifting on sanctions "will inevitably have an impact on the oil price, some analysts say it could go down to as low as $20 a barrel", because its exports would rise, increasing supply further.
On Friday, oil prices fell to below $30 a barrel, a new 12-year low, amid renewed concerns of slow growth in China - the world's second largest economy.
Iran is the world's fourth largest oil producer.

Federal government sacks Nnpc Executive Directors
The federal government on Wednesday sacked all the eight group government administrators of the Nigerian National petroleum Corporation.
It commenced a massive reorganization within the corporation on Tuesday after announcing a brand new group Managing Director for the firm.
The sacking of the eight government administrators was confirmed by the group general manager, Group Public Affairs Division, NNPC, Mr. Ohi Alegbe, on Wednesday in Abuja. Alegbe, during a statement, said, “The Federal Government has approved the retirement of all eight Group government administrators of the NNPC with immediate effect.
“The affected GEDs are Mr. bernard Otti, GED Finance and Accounts; Dr. Timothy Okon, Acting GED Exploration and Production who conjointly doubles as Coordinator corporate planning & Strategy; Engr. Adebayo Ibirogba, Engineering and Technology; Dr. David Ige, Gas and Power; Ms. Aisha Abdurrahman, Commercial and Investment; Dr. Dan Efebo, Corporate Services; Mr. Ian Udoh, Refining & Petrochemicals; and Dr. Attahiru Yusuf, Business Development.”
The statement noted that the new GMD of the NNPC, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, in person sent the Federal Government’s call to the GEDs. He expressed gratitude to them for their services to the corporation and wished them success in their future endeavours.
The corporation, however, didn't name their replacements, however our correspondent gathered that four new directorates may be created by the government, whereas some names were already confined down by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Sources at the corporation expressed that the new offices include board of directors of refining and Engineering, board of directors of Exploration and Production, board of directors of commercial and Investment, and board of directors of Finance.
The restructuring at the NNPC and therefore the sacking of its entire GEDs happened barely twenty four hours when the President appointed Kachikwu because the oil firm’s GMD.

Mass Failure As Nigerian Law School Release Results
Some hours ago, the Nigerian Law School released the result of their
just concluded examinations. According to a information reaching us, a
lot of students failed. An estimation of about 60% of the students
failed the exam, about another 25% with General Pass and only 15% making
First Class, Second Class Upper and Second Class Lower.
This is the second time the Law School will be experiencing such. Many of the students are devastated.
This is the question, what is going on, why is this happening? is it the fault of the students or that of the lecturer.
